We're all set for tomorrow's performance honoring the radio career of the legendary Orson Welles, one of our major inspirations. And, we're performing on the Orson Welles Stage at the Woodstock Opera House, the very stage on which Welles' made his directorial debut in 1934. We're pretty awed by the whole event, which includes experts from around the world discuss Welles and his work. Our radio shows focus on 1938 and include portions of "The Shadow," "Dracula," "Immortal Sherlock Holmes," and the full "War of the Worlds" broadcast. Stay tuned for pictures, and wish us luck!!
We've hardly had time to catch our breath this fall there's so much going on in the Old Time Radio world and in history! Our Gettysburg Address Tribute show, which begins airing Thursday, Nov. 14 on Kenosha TV, started out with a germ of idea I had one morning while drinking coffee and scanning USA Today on my iPAD. It was late September and the news noted that November 19th marked the 150th anniversary of The Gettysburg Address. Remembering we had done several Lincoln Tributes over the years (Cavalcade of America's "Lincoln, The War Years,") I immediately knew the time was right to breath new life into the show. A quick email to two of our frequent collaborators: Kenosha's Civil War Museum and Kenosha TV and the program was set within days. Museum Curator Doug Dammon would interview Gettysburg Address and Lincoln Scholar Steven Rogstad with Dan Stika behind the camera. Dan would work is production wonders and weave our two shows together for an hour-long special. We hope you enjoy the show! And to those who wonder why we love Kenosha and Lake County so much, it is here where we have the energy field to create pieces such as this!
Excited for the first time ever to go with advertising in the Kenosha News, see our ad on the left. Performing "War of the Worlds"75th anniversary broadcast in Orson Welles' home town is a really big deal and we want to make sure as many people know about it as possible! We're recreating the original radio play that caused a nationwide panic and in a nod to modern day, we've invited local media and bloggers to sit in the back of the room and blog and tweet what's happening on stage! Hope you'll join us! Doug Despin is directing the show, Leslie Utech is our sound effects director. The show stars: Jan Michalski as Orson Welles, Noah Chartrand, Ed Godula, Kandy Helson, Tina Huck, Jim Kollar, John McLaughlin, Jay Rattle, Dan Stika, J.R. Trimark, Dave Wildes, and Pat Zakrezewski. Rich Clemons is our sound designer extraordinaire and Rick Hagerty is our sound engineer. Nita Hunter is producing. Welles' formative years were spent at the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock, and members of the Welles Centenary Festival are busy planning NOW for the 100th anniversary of his birth in May 2015. RG Productions is excited to take part in the planning and helping to shape an evening dedicated to Welles in radio. If you have any ideas, or your group would like to be included, let us know!
